If you were to describe the most enjoyable match you have ever had, would it be the match where you won or lost 6-0, 6-0 in 20 minutes against an opponent that was a completely different level to you, or would it be the battle that you managed to clinch 7-6, 4-6, 7-6. Exactly. Ratings are all about finding players of similar ability so that both players can have a competitive, enjoyable and close game. This is the secret to the growth and development of the sport. Finding compatible players. Accurate ratings allow club staff to organize events where every participant has a greater opportunity to have close, enjoyable games. They allow beginners to find compatible opponents so that they don't quit after playing against a too-strong opponent. And they allow two players of slightly different skill levels to level the playing field so that each player has an equal opportunity to win the match. That means, this year, there could be a new club champion in our midst.
Tencap offers clubs an interactive software package that improves members services and satisfaction, helps organize and manage club events, and helps pros and staff find compatible opponents with little effort and fantastic results. If your club is not using Tencap Tennis, it is missing out on an opportunity to offer all members the benefits of an accurate rating system, interactive calendar, find a game tool, and the best social tennis network available. Firstly, its accurate. With only 3% of the tennis market playing in USTA leagues or tournaments, 97% of players have to guess what their NTRP rating is. And once they or their pro have made this guess, players do not receive any quantitative feedback from their results to know whether they have moved into the next rating level. They have to guess their improvements as well. Aside from the computer generated DNTRP ratings, that are only for USTA members (that 3% of the market), the subjectivity of the NTRP rating system has made it an inaccurate method for rating tennis players. In golf, you don't go to the driving range, hit a few balls, and then have a pro guess your handicap. You have to earn your handicap by playing. Now, Tencap Tennis allows players to earn their ratings. It's brilliant. And it is changing the game one player at a time.
Tencap has been established to create the most accurate rating system for amateur tennis players. Results can only be entered against players who are in the Tencap Tennis Rating System. Every time a set score is entered, the opponent must accept the score in order for the set to count towards both players' ratings. If the set score is denied, it will not count towards the opponents ratings. When three set scores are denied, the players profile is red flagged, and the player is contacted by their club or by Tencap Tennis staff. Tencap reserves the right to remove any players from the Tencap Tennis system who may be entering fictitious or inaccurate scores. As a community monitored network, we rely on all Tencap players to ensure the validity of the players and the results within the community.
Rankings determine the order of players based on their results in certain events. Often rankings are determined based on the total number of points players accumulate, and different points are allocated for different tournaments and different rounds within each tournament. A rating system determines the general skill level of a player, so multiple players may have the same ratings, while few, if any, will have the same ranking.
It's simple. The more you play, and the more people you play against, the more accurate your Tencap rating will become. If you played against the same guy every week and never played against anyone else, how would you or the system know what your skill level was as compared to many other players? The key is to play as much tennis against as many people as possible. The Rating System has 3 levels of Rating Accuracy for immediate recognition of how accurate your Tencap Rating really is. It's simple. Get a better score than the predicted score against any opponent? In its most basic form, think of it like golf. If you have a 10 handicap in golf, the handicap predicts that you will shoot 10 over par. If you shoot 8 over par, you did better than your handicap. If you continue to do this round after round, your handicap is going to improve from 10 to 8. That's how Tencap works. When comparing your rating to your opponents rating, the system predicts what the score in each set should be. If you do better than that score, you are going to begin to improve your Tencap Rating. Just remember the rule, every 2 points difference in ratings is equal to 1 game difference in each set. And remember, the lower your rating, the better your skill level.
This is a common question. We recommend showing the USTA your results and requesting a rating change. There are no guarantees that they will actually change it, but it is worth a shot. The subjectivity of the USTA's NTRP rating often means that many players are mis-rated, which has the whole NTRP rating system out of wack. But, with Tencap's help, players are earning accurate ratings every day. By showing the USTA the accuracy of the Tencap Tennis Ratings System, maybe we can help them improve their services, improve the competitiveness of their leagues, and improve the sport of tennis in America. The extensive research done by the Tennis Industry Association shows that the number one reason rejoiners begin playing tennis again is because they found someone to play with. Their research also shows that the number two reason most players play less tennis or leave the game is that they could not find anyone to play with. The TIA and USTA has created "Find a Game" programs on their websites to try to help tennis players connect, but when all the players in these systems are self-rated with the NTRP rating system, players don't trust that they will have compatible games with the other players. With the Tencap Rating System, Tennis players can not only search for compatible tennis players to play with, the advanced technologies in Tencap's system will actually recommend compatible players in your area. You can immediately view these players' match history for their casual, league and tournament scores to get better idea of whether they are at your level. Plus, with the unique Handicapping feature in the Tencap Rating System, even players of somewhat different skill levels can have competitive games. All of this will encourage more people to play more tennis, hence growing the game.
